BIO ON 1ST PLACE WINNER ROBERT ELLISON:
Robert Ellison’s objective in painting is to express the essence of what he sees and experiences. He mixes realism with abstraction, striving with oil or acrylic, knife and brush, to capture the energy, beauty and color he finds in his subject with bold and often contrasting marks, colors and textures.
Ellison draws inspiration from unusual aspects of manmade or natural objects and from the field markings, shapes and skies of the natural landscape in its infinite variety. While much of his work depicts the windswept and timeless scenery of coastal County Donegal, it is also inspired by his travels elsewhere in Ireland, Wales and Southern Europe. Robert Ellison is an Irish painter, but one influenced by the works he has seen of great European painters such as Van Gogh, Matisse, Soutine, Vlaminck and Picasso.
