Each Spring the American Art Awards board selects the 25 Best Galleries And Museums In America to partner with for their prestigious annual awards. This past week President of American Art Awards renowned painter and bestselling author Thom Bierdz (“Forgiving Troy”) explained, “Each year the American Art Awards consider thousands of the most established art venues from Maine to Hawaii. This year we awarded several museums with historical significance of 100+ years, some with over 100,000 annual visitors, some specializing in American acquisitions and others foreign antiquities. We’ve also selected some of the most reputable art galleries that specialize in contemporary works. In addition, we chose a few art facilities and centers dedicated to exhibiting the struggle and triumph of minorities and making an impact on their communities with inspiring educational programs.”
The selection for Louisiana is the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane University located in the Woldenberg Art Center on the campus of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. While widely known for its significant collection of Newcomb pottery, the institution today focuses on contemporary exhibitions and programs that explore innovative art and design.
Why did the American Art Awards select Newcomb Art Museum as one of the 25 Best Galleries Or Museums for 2017? “We study countless galleries and museums and Newcomb always comes up. They continually present stunning, on-point shows—in composition and talent. They are truly the epitome of what a contemporary gallery or museum can aspire to be. We also commend their interdisciplinary collaborations, innovative programs that engage communities both on and off campus, and shows that pay tribute to their historical legacy.” Thom Bierdz, President, American Art Awards
